Purpose of the Guyer-Carignan Post 22 Honor Guard
* To provide Military Rites for Deceased Honorably Discharged Veterans.
* To participate in a limited number of parades.
*
To present programs on Americanism, Flag and other Patriotic ceremonies
to Grade, High Schools, Scouts and others as requested.
* To participate in Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day, 9/11 and others.
Upon the
family's request, Public Law 106-65 requires that every eligible Veteran
receive a military funeral honors ceremony, to include folding and
presenting the United States burial flag and the playing of taps.
In our case there is 3 rifle volleys fired, taps and the folding and presenting of the flag.
The 3 volleys
signifying that the dead are being cared for, going back to the
tradition during the Civil War where both sides would fire 3 shots and a
cease fire would be called so that both sides could care for their
deceased.
